Comparison of three real time techniques for the measurement of dynamic fracture initiation toughness in metals
نویسنده
چکیده
Three techniques for measuring dynamic stress intensity factor time histories of dynamically loaded stationary modeI cracks are compared as applied to dynamically loaded pre-cracked 6Al–4V titanium alloy specimens. The three techniques are crack opening displacement (COD), dynamic strain gage measurement, and coherent gradient sensing (CGS). The stress intensity factor histories are inferred from each measurement technique and are used to obtain the critical dynamic initiation toughness as a function of loading rate (K Icð _ K I Þ). There are significant differences in implementation and information obtained from each of the three measurement techniques, though for the tests performed all are found to yield very similar results. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Rapid development of engineering activities expands through a variety of rock engineering processes such as drilling, blasting, mining and mineral processing. These activities require rock dynamic fracture mechanics method to characterize the rock behavior. Dynamic fracture toughness is an important parameter for the analysis of engineering structures under dynamic loading. Several experimental...
متن کاملDynamic fracture of berylium-bearing bulk metallic glass systems: A cross-technique comparison
We report on a detailed comparison between two different experimental techniques used to measure the dynamic initiation fracture toughness KdIC of a bulk metallic glass system (Vitreloy-1) and its b-phase composite. Both the coherent gradient sensing interferometry (CGS) and one-point impact techniques reveal very similar trends in the KdIC– _ K d I relationship for Vitreloy-1. A drastic increa...

Lead zirconate titanate (PZT) as a piezoelectric ceramic has been used widely in the fields of electronics, biomedical engineering, mechatronics and thermoelectric. Although, the electrical properties of PZT ceramics is a major considerable, but the mechanical properties such as fracture strength and toughness should be improved for many applications. In this study, lead monoxide, zirconium ...

Background and Aims: Fracture and color change are among the most common causes of clinical failure of resin composite restorations. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the fracture toughness and color changes of 3 Nano-hybrid resin composites in dry and wet conditions. Materials and Methods: Three resin composites were studied. A total of 36 rectangular specimens were prepared for each mat...
متن کاملDynamic Fracture Initiation Toughness of a Gamma (Met-PX) Titanium Aluminide at Elevated Temperatures
Recently, a new generation of titanium aluminide alloy named Gamma-Met PX (GKSS, Geesthacht, Germany) has been developed with better rolling and postrolling characteristics. Previous work on this alloy has shown the material to have higher strengths at room and elevated temperatures when compared with other gamma titanium aluminides. In particular, this new alloy has shown increased ductility a...
